NEW ARRIVALS 💚
We mentioned recently that a colony we thought we’d finally stopped (19 cats later) has started producing more cats again - and this weekend we went out to trap the emergency cases from the site. It genuinely feels never-ending out there.
On Friday night we managed to trap one junior kitten, the only one left from the litter from what the feeder can tell. They are absolutely terrified and completely unsocialised from being born in a garden, but they’re finally safe and off the streets.
Then yesterday, a huge thank you to Nikki and two of our volunteers who spent the entire day trapping Mum and her four newborn kittens. Mum had given birth under a broken fence panel in a derelict garden within the last 24 hours and was understandably petrified. She bolted at first, so the babies needed a few feeds until late in the day when Mum was finally trapped. She appears semi-feral, being a queen from the colony, but she’s incredibly hormone driven and may calm with time once she feels secure.
There are still more cats at the site, but we’re stretched so incredibly thin that we have to focus on the most urgent cases first. It’s like whack-a-mole at this point, with new cats appearing as fast as we can help the last.
For now, this little family - and the junior - are safe, warm, and finally somewhere they can be cared for properly.
